This is an abstract depiction of my “eye-mouth” creature, as my “Eyeflower” is, a drawing with filters in Photoshop from 2002. The reference material is a photo of a rose, but the composition deliberately avoids the details that define individual petals. Instead, it distills the rose into pure form. The moment I added an eye, I also gave it a hint of a smile — a spark of life that transformed its otherwise “serious” shape into something more animated and personal.
I have chosen this work for my collection SDL Origins because of its historical significance. It was the last piece I created in Photoshop until 2022, when I returned to the software after two decades. The reason for this long pause was my decision to embrace free editors, which by then were powerful enough for my needs. At the same time, I adopted a creative philosophy: to avoid extensions whenever possible and rely only on the most basic tools.
This approach has shaped both my visual and musical work. By mastering the essentials, I ensure that I can create on any platform, with any software, at any time. The universality of basic tools grants me creative freedom, while advanced software and extensions are reserved only for moments of big necessity. For me, the essence of art lies not in the sophistication of the tools, but in the ability to adapt, simplify, and breathe life into form.
