Old Cave Wall: Fiction History Or Ancient Depth?

This image was created in Photoshop in 1998. It is a texture montage, with two textures beveled and embossed on separate layers. The glowing part in the middle is a beveled, semi-transparent layer with a simplified and vectorized fractal. I used this image both as a texture and as a composition for a couple of images in this series. However, the reason I particularly remember this image is that it inspired a short story, which I wrote the same day I made this image. Many years later, I used it in my novel “The New Land.” It is the part in “The New Land” where the protagonist “walks into the wall” in the Stockholm metro and enters the mythical underground. The description of the underground portal in the written story is a surreal depiction of this image. I have created many images as illustrations for my stories and poems, using my texts and poetry as prompts, but this image is one of the few that served as a visual prompt resulting in a longer text. It may not shine with artistic value, but its connection to my novels makes it worthy of attention.
